Voids

I tend to place the role of perfection on myself. I tend to think that I have to live perfectly

to be loved by Jesus. Perfection is just not attainable no matter how hard we try. Jesu

is and will continue to be the only one to live a perfect life. If we aren’t careful we can

make the role of perfection into an idol. We can make this the center of our focus

instead of God. I was talking to my youth leader and he said, “When we place perfection

n on ourselves it is out of pride. We are saying that the cross isn’t enough.”

The cross is enough, Jesus is enough. He lived a perfect life so that we don’t have to.
We don’t have to worry about placing this role of perfection on ourselves because He doesn’t
ask us to. He knows that it isn’t achievable. I find that when I am really stressed or I feel alone,
I turn to this idea and concept. When I turn to things that could become voids in life, it's
because I have expected God to understand my without me even saying a word. I have no
doubt that He knows me and understands me, but I can't expect for Him to answer things in
my life if I don't spend time telling Him about them.

We all have something in our lives that we turn to when we feel like we need to fill the “void”. All voids start with the lie that God is not good enough. We may not come out and directly say this, but by letting other things come in and pull us away, we are living like He isn't. When we turn away our hope and our faith in Christ, we tend to feel like we need a temporary “high” to fill His presence. (which cannot be done by the way). No one else can fill that void no matter how hard you try and make their piece fit.

Look at Solomon’s life, he tried to fill his void with power, money, success, and fame and none of it fulfilled him. He was always looking for something to make him feel better than the previous “high”. At the end of Solomon’s story he says that it all was vanity and that he searched for these things because he hoped to fill his void. In Ecclesiastes 12:13, he says, “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole of man.” This shows so perfectly that the road to fulfilment cannot come from this world, it can only come from the one who created it.

With the void, comes a lot of voices and things that are going to try and fill it. Satan will be so prominent because he wants to be the one to fill it. He can place the idea of so many things in that place to make it seem like we are filled. The ultimate truth is, we will run dry.

Perfection just cannot be achieved. Jesus was the only one and will continue to be the

only one to live a perfect life and to obtain perfection. We don’t realize how binding our void

can be until we get away from it. It’s very scary how the lie just builds without our permission

or knowledge, until eventually it's controlling us. Let's take notice of the things in our life that

are trying to pull us away from God, so that they don't become voids. Let's tell God about our

life instead of expecting Him to already know.

"The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
