Voids Pt. 1- Daydreaming

When a situation in life doesn’t end the way that we had hoped, we lose faith. We

begin to think that we weren’t good enough. We begin to question God because we don’t think

it should have ended that way.

I am very much a person who likes to know what is going to happen in life. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but sometimes it can become an obsession. It's easy to daydream when we think ahead of what we want our lives to look like. The thing about daydreaming is that most of the time, it’s unrealistic. We think of the best possible outcome. We don’t think about all of the things that could and will go differently than we had planned. By doing this, we put unrealistic expectations on our lives.

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”

It’s good to think about the future and prepare yourself, but when it becomes an obsession, it can also become a void. When we daydream, we slowly take our faith out of God. We stop believing that He has a plan for our lives. We begin to put the pressure of what happens on our shoulders instead of trusting His plan. If you're constantly thinking about how you want your life to happen, and it doesn’t happen that way, it’s easy to say, “God I think You got it wrong”. When we put these unrealistic expectations on our lives, we’re saying that God's plan isn’t good enough for us.

Colossians 3:1-2 says, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on Earth.”

The bad thing about daydreaming is that it causes us to focus on things on this Earth, instead of the One who is in Heaven. Things just aren’t going to happen the way that we hope, but we can believe in God’s plan even when they don’t. God’s vision is never wrong, it's our vision that is.

As you go through your week, check up on your expectations, write down your hopes and the things you want to get accomplished. Make sure that they are things you have control over, decisions that you can easily make. As you prepare for the future, ask God to guide you so that you never lose sight of His plan.
