Don't Waste the Waiting Pt. 1
This new series is all about waiting. I want to ask you a few questions to keep in your mind. What is a goal or dream that you are chasing after? What is a job or title that you are striving towards? What is something that you are waiting for?
Throughout this series, I want to focus on the life of Peter. Peter is one of Jesus’s 12 disciples. He is known for being really stubborn, but at the same time, Peter is known for having great faith. Peter was a fisherman, that is what he did to live. Peter fished in a boat with his brother Andrew. One day when they were fishing, they saw a man across the lake (this man was Jesus). He called out to them saying, "have you caught anything?" They said, "no we haven’t." Jesus said to them, "cast your net on the other side of the boat." So, they did, but something amazing happened. When they pulled their net back up, the net was so full of fish, it began to break. Immediately, Peter said, "you are the Messiah, I am not worthy of you."
I love this moment in Peter’s life because it shows the first time where he really had to demonstrate faith. There was no logical reason why casting his net on the right side versus the left side of the boat would have caught anything, but he still decided to give it a shot. Immediately, when he realized what had happened, he knew that it was the messiah. I love this, it makes me ask the question, “What was Peter waiting for?”. I think that Peter was waiting for something, even if he didn’t know what it looked like because he knew when he saw the action that it was Jesus.
After Peter realized that it was Jesus, Jesus said, “Come, follow me.” and Peter left everything to go follow Him. He didn’t stop and think, wait this is the best catch of my life, he immediately follows Jesus.
I love how intentional Jesus was when He called Peter. He didn’t call him when he was on the shore, or when he was walking home, or when he was eating dinner. Jesus called Peter when he was doing what he had to do to survive, but you know what? Peter immediately got up, left everything, and followed Jesus.
What would our lives look like if we had the same mindset as Peter? What would it look
like if we gave up everything to follow God’s plan and call for our lives? It would change
everything! As you reflect on this, think about this question, “What are you waiting for?”
