Don’t Waste the Waiting Part 3
Recap--The last part of this series we talked about the importance of waiting. We talked about not missing out on our callings because we are so focused on what we want to happen.
Maybe you were thinking about that, and you are at the point in your life where you are just frustrated with God. You don’t understand why He isn’t doing what you think He should be doing. Maybe you don’t think that His timing aligns with yours, or maybe you don’t see God moving at all.
When we look at what God is doing in other people’s lives, it is so easy to let that blind us to what He is doing in ours. We think that our life has to look like theirs to mean that God is working. Maybe you are frustrated with God because you didn’t get the job that you wanted. Maybe you’re frustrated because you didn’t get into the school that you wanted, or the sports team that you wanted to be on. Maybe you’re frustrated with God because you feel like He isn’t moving in your life. Sometimes, God never promises the things that we want. The job, sports team, friendship, business, those things are great, but they aren’t promises of God.
It is so easy to think that God promises us these things, or that we worked so hard to accomplish them, it should happen. But what if they don’t? You can probably look back on a time in your life where God didn’t do something you had hoped or prayed for. Most of the time, we don’t go running towards God, we pull away.
The waiting can be so beneficial. If we want to see Him work, we have to learn how He works. If we want to see Him move, we have to know how He moves. If we want to hear Him speak, we have to know how He speaks. Those things come from spending intentional time with God. Once you start to use that waiting to learn about who God is, then we can see all that He is doing in our lives. Don’t miss out on what God is doing in the waiting times in your life because you are frustrated that you are waiting. Let the waiting be an opportunity to see God like you haven’t before.
Maybe you're the opposite, maybe you are thinking that you are spending time with God and doing everything that you should be doing, but still aren’t seeing God work. There have been times in my life where I have felt this way, where I have said, God why not? Why are you not working when I am doing the things I should? God spoke to me at that moment saying, “If you are spending time with God to get something out of Him, then you are doing it for the wrong reason.” This hit me hard, but it changed the way I looked at my relationship with God. Once you know God’s character, you begin to see all that He has been doing in your life all along. Don’t waste the waiting because you are frustrated that you’re waiting, let it be a time where you grow!
