Don't Waste the Waiting pt. 5

One of my least favorite parts about going to the doctor is having to do the eye exam. I know that I can see, but when you have me covering and uncovering my eyes, it makes it very difficult. At first when we look with both eyes, it’s pretty easy, we aren’t shocked by what we are seeing. Once we have to cover one of them, it gets a little harder to see, but we can still see pretty well. But, when we uncover the eye that was covered and try to see out of it, it is so hard, it’s blurry and blotchy, it becomes much harder to see. This is a great example of what our faith looks like.

When we are living a life with Jesus, there are going to be things that come to the surface. There are going to be habits, actions, and thoughts that we are compelled to change. When we walk through life without anything blinding us, it is pretty easy, but, at some point, there are going to be things that come in and mess with our vision. We can still move around and see pretty well with the things that are covering our eyes, but it can make it easier to miss out on some things we can only see when we have both eyes. Much like God, when we have doubt or worry or fear, it makes it harder to trust and see what He is doing than if we didn’t have those things.

At some point, we make the decision to take away what is covering our vision. This is something that can take a lot of time, because to take away the covering, we have to know what it is made up of. When we start asking ourselves, “What are things that are keeping me from God?” We will start to see things that maybe we knew about, but most likely things we had no idea were hindering our vision.

Looking at Peter's life, the things that were covering his eyes may be totally different from the things covering ours. It took him stepping out and having full faith in God, to see what He was struggling in. Only when he stepped out on the water and began to sink did he realize that he wasn't trusting God as much as he could have been. Let's make an effort not to run away from situations that will show our faith but run towards them. This isn't an opportunity to "show off" how much faith we have, but an opportunity to see the ways that we can grow!

Faith isn’t something that we wake up with one day. We are constantly working to figure out what that means in our lives. After we take off what was blocking our vision, it isn’t clear right away, it takes time to clear back up. This is how our faith is going to be too. Once we take away the covering, Satan is going to do everything in his power to make us believe we were better with it. To get into our heads and try to fool us into covering our vision back up, and that is where we have to fight. We have to have the faith to say that even if we don’t see God’s plan, we put our full faith, hope, and trust in Him!
